Renters must create their own account at Garmin.com and purchase SAR coverage for themselves ($40/yr). They do not have to have their own device to purchase their own SAR insurance plan, but a SOS must be activated on a Garmin supported device in order for their SAR coverage to be valid. Failure to do this will result in high costs of SAR if needed. Otherwise, the device will have unlimited text and check-ins.
